Obituary for Hermann Ernest Niehaus

Obituary: Hermann Ernest Niehaus, of Milford, CT, formerly of Valhalla, died June 7, 2010. He was 99. He was born on July 11, 1910 in Cappel, Germany to Otto and Frieda (Adickes) Niehaus. He immigrated to the USA in 1928 and on June 4, 1932 he married Mariechen Schade. In 1944 they moved from the Bronx to Valhalla where they lived until 1997 when they moved to Milford, CT. Hermann was employed as a short order cook when he first came to the USA and became a NYCRR Communications Technician and Foreman. He retired from Penn Central Railroad in 1974 as a Methods Engineer. After he retired, he was security at the Westchester County Center where he met Johnny & June Carter Cash as well as other celebrities. He was a member of the Valhalla Fire company #1, Valhalla Methodist Church and Copernicus Lodge #545. Hermann was predeceased by his wife and his daughter Eleanor Rosa. He is survived by his son-in-law Robert P. Rosa, Sr. of Milford, CT, his daughter Margaret McDonald and her husband Robert of Waterbury, CT, his grandchildren Margaret Rosa, Robert (Laura) Rosa, Jr., Ellyn (Lawrence) Liseo, Elisabeth (Robert) Lockwood, Suzanne (Michael) McDermott and 10 great grandchildren Bradley, Robert, Kyle, Trent, Katelynn, Lindsey, Katherine, Ryan, Daniel and Caroline. Rest in peace Pop Pop. Your Journey through life was amazing! You were an inspiration to your family & friends. You are back in Valhalla.
Visitation will be Friday 10:30am to 12:30pm at Beecher Funeral Home, Inc., Pleasantville where his funeral service will be held at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla. Memorials may be made to The Valhalla United Methodist Church, 200 Columbus Ave., Valhalla, NY, 10595.
