Obituary for Maria A. Sammartano (Franco)

It is with great love that we celebrate the life of Maria Adelaide (Franco) Sammartano who died peacefully Monday 2/17/14. Born in Rome, Italy on May 17, 1924, Maria came to America in 1940. She leaves a legacy of love, generosity, joy, great food, kisses and hugs that she showered on all who were lucky enough to be in her presence. She is re-united with her beloved husband, Walter, who died 50 years ago. They will dance now until the stars grow cold and dim.
Maria, worked tirelessly for nearly 30 years as bookkeeper and executive manager of Tiro A Segno, a private Italian club in NYC. She was an avid Yankee fan.
Maria is survived by her son, Robert, daughter-in-law Judy, cherished grandchildren Katy and husband Will Steere, Daniel, Raquel, great-grandson, Jake, her sisters, Ida Mauriello, Beatrice Bass, Adelaide Greco and many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Italy. She was “Nonna”, “Mom” and “Zizi” to a very extended “family” of people who loved her.
Visiting hours at Beecher-Flooks Funeral home at 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville NY are Wednesday 7-9pm, Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral mass will be on Friday at 10am at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville, NY.
