Obituary for Thomas A. Burgess

Thomas Anthony Burgess, 86, of Winter Haven, Florida and formerly of Cortlandt Manor, New York passed away on June 7, 2014. He was born on September 30, 1927 in New York City. He proudly served in the armed forces during World War II and retired from the Metro North Railroad after 41 years of service as a sheet metal worker. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian (Claybourne) Burgess, daughter, Mary Theresa Burgess, and sisters Eileen Connolly and Frances McCarthy. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret (Rooney) Burgess, daughters Margaret Lenihan (William) and Eileen (Al) Holden, grandchildren Matthew and Caroline Lenihan, and brother, William Burgess. His love for his family and his kindness toward others endeared him to everyone he met.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home (beecherflooksfh.com), Pleasantville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 14, at 10 am at Church of St John and St Mary, Upper Church , Chappaqua, New York followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
The family asks that memorial donations be made in his name to the Church of the Assumption 131 Union Avenue, Peekskill, NY 10566.
