ROBERTA FRIEDMAN OBITUARY

January 16, 1951 Brooklyn-September 29, 2014 Yorktown Heights

Roberta was a rare 5.5 year survivor of Mesothelioma. She was a heroic warrior

spiritually growing despite the obstacles.

Roberta had an early interest in Art and won awards early on. She studied Art at New Paltz University and Brooklyn College under the mentorship of the painter Philip Pearlstein and the photographer George Krause. Her education was cut short by a horseback riding accident in which she fractured vertabrae.

Early in her work career, she was a medical asst. for her uncle Dr. Daniel Beer. She also worked for the NY Parks Department.

Roberta carried on with the arts in San Francisco working for Levi Strauss and a popular Soccer Newspaper called Soccer America. She then started a DayCare School with her sister Eileen and they called it The Hobbit School. It was very successful and Roberta would aid the children in numerous creative endeavors.

Back in NY, Roberta worked for The Neuberger Museum of Art in their Education Office.

In 2009, Roberta was diagnosed with Pleural Mesothelioma and caused considerable trauma.

Roberta was asked to run a Spiritual Help Teleconference group with other mesothelioma patients. She helped them cope with the horrible disease by teaching meditation, and discussing other ways of coping and learning to live WITH their diagnosis, treatments, and other roadblocks to living a viable fruitful life.

Roberta is survived by her husband, Stuart, daughter, Addie, and son Daniel. Roberta has one brother, Howard and mother Renee Beer.
