Alfred N.  Andersen
Our father and friend Alfred left us peacefully at 5:29pm on August 25th after a four month battle with melanoma. He is now reunited with his loving wife Ruth who predeceased him on March 21st of this year.
Alfred was born in New York City on July 19, 1933.
Alfred graduated from Pleasantville High School (1952), Paul Smith’s College (1955), served in the U.S. Army (1955-1957), Swedish School of Massage (1958), and NYU School of Physical Medicine (1963). He had a private physical therapy practice in Pleasantville, NY from 1963 until he retired in 1997. After retirement, Ruth and Al divided their time between their homes in Vero Beach, Florida and Candlewood Lake, Connecticut.
Alfred was a life member of the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department (44 years) and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Alfred married Ruth Louise Stark on December 27, 1958. Together they raised three children. Alfred also has one son from his previous marriage to Elizabeth L. Swets in 1954.
Alfred is survived by his children and grandchildren; son Gary Andersen and wife Bonnie of Carmel, NY; son AJ Andersen of Miami, FL; daughter Kim Andersen-Gerosa and husband Bill of Pleasantville, NY; son Karl Andersen and wife Anja Taekker of Poughquag, NY; granddaughters Maya Andersen, Nicole Gerosa, Grace Gerosa and Sophia Andersen.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM, Sunday August 30, 2015 at Beecher-Flooks Funeral Home. 418 Bedford Rd. Pleasantville, NY 10570. A Celebration of Alfred’s life will begin at 5:00 PM. Interment will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday August 31, 2015 at Raymond Hill Cemetery 165 Gleneida Ave. Carmel, NY 10512.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions to The Sparrows Nest; a dedicated group in the Hudson Valley that prepares and delivers homemade trays of food to the families of moms with cancer www.sparrowsnestcharity.org, or to a cancer society of their choice.
