Obituary for Angela Gourgareas (Makras)
Angela Gourgareas passed away Tuesday morning, December 22nd. Her husband George and two children, Steve and Nia, were at her side along with her brother, in-laws and niece and nephews. Angela was born on December 6, 1940 in Kalamata, Greece. She was raised in Platsa and attended the University Of Thessolinki where she received a degree as a registered nurse specializing in Midwifery. She continued her career as a midwife at Aretaieio Hospital of Athens, Greece. She moved to Pleasantville, NY in 1970 and married George Gourgareas in 1971 at The Church of Our Savior in Rye, NY. Angela was a member of the church and married to her husband for 44 years. She was beloved by the community and always had her doors and arms open to welcome anyone in need and truly enjoyed spending time with her family. A Greek woman that loved cooking for anyone at any time and made sure there was enough to take home extras. In lieu of flowers kindly make donations in Angela’s name to: Church of Our Savior 2195 Westchester Avenue East Rye, New York, 10580.
The family will receive friends on December 27th from 4 PM - 8 PM at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, Pleasantville NY. A Funeral Service will be December 28th at 10 AM at The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior in Rye, NY. The interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
