Obituary for Evelyn K. Shannahan (Kelly)

Evelyn Shannahan passed away peacefully at The Osborne in Rye, NY about four weeks after she suffered a stroke. She is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, Cornelius Evans (Neil) Shannahan and five of her children: Constance Gardner of Far Hills, NJ, Regina Palumbo of New York, NY, C. Kevin Shannahan of Lake Forest, IL, Gregory Shannahan of Mendham, NJ and Timothy Shannahan of San Diego, CA. Her eldest daughter Deidre Shannahan is deceased. Evelyn is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren who loved and adored her.

Evelyn was born in The Bronx, New York and moved to Garden City, Long Island shortly after her marriage to start a family. Evelyn and Neil then moved to Chappaqua, NY where they happily spent most of the rest of their lives. Evelyn led an active life, skiing in Vermont and Aspen and vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. She ran a thriving painting business with her sons and continued to pursue her higher education at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY. However, Evelyn derived her greatest pleasure as a loving wife and dedicated mother and grandmother.

A private viewing will be held at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY on Saturday February 20, followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at the Church of Saint John and Saint Mary (Little Church) in Chappaqua, NY. There will be a brief funeral service at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY at 11:30 AM.
