Obituary for John W. Kelly

John Wright Kelly 73, a resident of Pleasantville, NY died suddenly on February 20, 2016. He was born on October 5, 1942 in Mt. Kisco, NY to the late Alfred Daniel Kelly and Ellen (Wright) Kelly. John was valedictorian of his graduating class at Briarcliff High School and then attended Middlebury College where he received his BA in Liberal Arts. He was enrolled in the ROTC program at Middlebury. Upon graduating from Middlebury, he attended Columbia Law School where he earned his J.D.
John proudly served four years of active duty in the Judge Advocate Corp of the Army from 1968-1972 and spent a year in Vietnam. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Borelli) of Briarcliff, NY in 1966 and settled in Pleasantville after his service in 1972 where he has resided ever since.
After finishing his military service, John served as the Assistant District Attorney for the State of NY until 1974 where he then went to work for the NY State Courts until he retired in 2007 as the Chief Clerk of the Surrogates Court.
John was a music lover, known for his deep knowledge of all things rock and roll and was unbeatable in trivia of all kinds. He was an avid golfer but mostly was a loving family man taking great pride and pleasure in spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Carol, son John W. Kelly II (Amy), daughter Diane Kelly Mitchell, daughter Pamela Ellen Kelly, his sister Lynne Civita and brother-in-law John Borelli (Ann-Marie). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Colin Mitchell, Jillian Mitchell, Alexandra Kelly and Addison Kelly, as well as his loving nieces and nephew.
A wake will be held on Monday from 4pm to 8pm at Beecher Funeral Home on Bedford Road in Pleasantville and the funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:00am at Holy Innocents Church.
