Obituary for Roger John Torpie

Roger John Torpie, 75, of Thornwood, NY passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, April 14, 2016 in the company of his beloved wife, Pat Torpie. Born in Woodside, NY, to Robert and Helen Torpie, Roger lived most of his life in Thornwood. He received his BS and MBA from Fordham University.
Roger was a voracious reader and gifted storyteller who left a lucrative career on Wall Street to open a small bookstore, The Olde Quarry Bookshoppe in Thornwood. Known as much for his (very) unfiltered sense of humor as for his generous heart, Roger was a force of life whose presence lit up any room with laughter.
Roger was an incredibly-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be missed every day. In addition to his wife, Roger was survived by his sons Roger Torpie, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Douglas Torpie of Mamaroneck, NY, and his daughter, Kathryn Parker of Winter Park, FL. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Luckily for those who loved him, Roger left behind an endless supply of memories which will become family legend for future generations. He now joins his son Andrew Torpie, who was called home in 2014. If the stars shine brighter now, it is only because Earth has lost a little of its luster.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Beecher Funeral Home, 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, NY. The Funeral mass will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Magdalene in Pocantico, NY. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roger’s name to the Brain Tumor Foundation, 25 West 45th Street, Ste. 1405, New York, NY 10036, Attn: Gerry Napoli.
