Obituary for George Francis Adamik

George Francis Adamik of Thornwood, NY passed away peacefully on April 27, 2016. George was born in Yonkers, NY on March 1, 1924 to Catherine and Frank Adamik. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret (Peg) Adamik who were married at Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers, NY on May 1, 1949 and shared a 66 year loving relationship together. He is survived by his two sons The Rev. George Adamik and wife Mary Adamik of Apex, NC along with granddaughters Elizabeth Adamik Gallagher and husband Danny Gallagher of Hamden, CT., and Rebecca Adamik of Mooresville, NC, and son Brian Adamik and Susan Arcuri of Bedford, MA along with grandsons Christopher Adamik and Michael Adamik also of Bedford, MA. George is predeceased by daughter Joanne Adamik, who passed away in 1957, and sisters Evelyn Barrett and Lorraine McFarlane.
A World War II veteran, George was stationed in London and was active during many battles throughout Europe. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army Air Force of the United States.
George worked for Lucent Communications (then called Western Electric) for over 40 years and played an important role in building out the United States telecommunications network in the northeast.
In addition to “tinkering” around the yard, George enjoyed woodworking and built countless numbers of bird houses and ornaments.
Visitation will be at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home Inc., Pleasantville, NY on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating George’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 AM at Holy Innocents Church located at 431 Bedford Rd., Pleasantville, NY. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
