Obituary for Edward W. Gertz

Edward W. Gertz, resident of Carmel, NY, passed away on January 26, 2017. Born December 24, 1940 in Mt. Vernon, NY, Ed was the son of Gustave and Bernadine Gertz. He grew up in Valhalla, NY, and attended White Plains High School. Ed was a Navy veteran and served as a SEABEE from 1958-1961. He settled with his family in Hawthorne, NY, and owned a successful construction business for 40 years. Survived by his wife Elizabeth (Buffy) Gertz, daughters Dawn (John) Longfield, Cheryl Boos, Audrey Calogero and grandchildren Matt and Lilly Boos, Mario and Rosa Calogero and great grandchild Chelsea. Ed is also survived by his sister Virginia Wentink and his brother Rick (Ann) Gertz. Ed was an avid trap shooter, gardener, artist, leather worker and loved to cook for his family and friends. A wake will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017, from 4-8 p.m., at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org, or Mt. Pleasant Sportsman’s Club, PO Box 121, Hawthorne, NY 10532
