Obituary for Edwin J. Michalec

Edwin J. Michalec
Edwin John (Ed) Michalec, 72, passed away at White Plains Hospital on Saturday July 1, 2017 after battling a long illness.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years Carol (nee Sammer), as well as his adoring daughters Deborah Frantzen (Russell) and Laura Olszewski (Ronald). He is also survived by his five grandchildren to whom he was devoted - Emily and Greg Frantzen and Tommy, Eddie and Jane Olszewski. They will all miss the love, laughter and guidance he so readily gave them. He is also survived by his brother Steven Michalec (Romey), as well as nieces and nephews.

Ed grew up in Yonkers and worked many years as a Machinist for Hertlein Special Tool Company in Mt. Vernon, NY. He made many friends there as well as at Yonkers Raceway where he worked part-time in security. In his later years he used his expertise to manage several large properties in White Plains and Pleasantville.

In 2004 Ed found his little piece of heaven on earth, purchasing his dream lakefront log cabin in The Northwoods Association of Lake Luzerne, NY. He spent many happy hours caring for it and made "The Cabin" a perfect place to share with the family that he loved so much. He never forgot to feed his birds (who would eat out of his hand), and tirelessly tended to his many trees, shrubs, flowers and tomatoes.

"Big Ed" was truly loved by all, and he has left a hand print on the hearts of all who knew him.
