Obituary for Carmela "Candy" E. Walsh

Carmela Ester Walsh, of Valhalla, New York, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2017 with her family by her side. Carmela, who was lovingly known as Candy, was 83 years old.


Born on May 6, 1934 to the late Michael and Virginia (Nee Bruno) Pezzullo, Carmela is predeceased by her sister Jennie Burgio and survived by sisters Marie Favorito and Virginia Schneider. After graduating from Christopher Columbus High School, Carmela worked for New York Life Insurance Company. That is where she met her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, John (Jack) Walsh of Long Island. After living briefly in the Bronx and Long Island, Carmela and John settled in Valhalla where they have lived for the past 50 years. Carmela was an active member of the community. She volunteered at Blythedale Hospital, served as a Girl Scout leader, helped out at the Women’s Club of Valhalla and worked at the Valhalla Public Library. Carmela was an avid reader, loved music and enjoyed crocheting.


Carmela is survived by her daughters Karen (Keith) Henderson of Chestnut Ridge, New York and Michele (Craig) Purpura of Cortlandt Manor, New York. Jenna, Brianna, Jaclyn and Shauna are her cherished granddaughters.


The family will receive friends Thursday July 27, from 2PM – 4PM and 7PM – 9PM at the Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, Inc. 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570 www.beecherflooksfh.com. A mass of the Christian Burial will take place Friday, July 28 at 11 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla, New York.
