Obituary for Maureen Martin (Birmingham)

Maureen Martin passed away peacefully July 31, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old. Maureen was born July 29, 1929 to the late Mary and Frances Birmingham in Yonkers, New York. She graduated from Saunders High School and worked at the Alexander Smith Carpet Mill Factory. On January 21, 1951 she married Bob Martin at St. Joseph’s Church. In 1969 they moved to Hawthorne, New York where Maureen was active at Holy Rosary Church, the Rosarians and the Mount Pleasant Seniors.
Maureen is survived by her five children, Ellen (Carl) Nathe of Lexington KY, Jeanne (Fortune) Macri of Pleasantville, Robert (Judi) Martin of Hawthorne, Paul (Suzanne) Martin of Hawthorne and Richard (Lois) Martin of Croton-on-Hudson. Maureen is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Kyle (Kristen), Fortune III, Emily, Matthew (Maura), Andrew, Bobby, Nicholas, Grace, Jason and one great-grandchild, Kaleb and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Bob, her grandson, Kevin and her brothers, Edward, Nicholas, Joseph Birmingham and her sister Sally Fozard, who was her best friend. The family will receive friends at the Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville on Wednesday August 2 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary R.C. Church in Hawthorne. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
