Obituary for Margaret Mary "Peggy" Collins (Flatley)

Print
Margaret M. Collins nรฉe Flatley entered into eternal life on July 24, 2018 at her home with her family.
Peggy, as she was known to all since her childhood in Cloonmore, Knock in County Mayo, Ireland, emigrated from her home to New York in 1952 at the age of 17. She worked hard her entire life, starting out as a waitress at Schrafftโ€™s in Manhattan.
She married Joseph A. Collins of Valhalla in 1956, settling in Ossining, with later moves to Hawthorne, Thornwood, Schenectady, and finally back to Thornwood in 1971. Together they had seven children
Peggyโ€™s life was defined by her faith, her family, and her love for Ireland and for America. One of the proudest moments of her life was when she became a U.S. citizen.
She had grit and an indomitable spirit. After raising her children, she decided to pursue a career in real estate in the 1980s and enjoyed a long career as an agent with Century 21 Wolff and Rand Realty where she made many treasured friendships among coworkers and clients.
โ— Peggy was an optimist who loved a good story, a good laugh and good Irish music. She cherished gardening, walking, traveling home, working and spending time with family, especially for Sunday dinners at her house. Her Catholic faith, which she frequently shared with others, anchored her throughout her life. She was a longtime Eucharistic Minister at Holy Innocents parish in Pleasantville
She is survived by Joseph a Collins of Thornwood, and her children; Mary Moran (Robert) of Boston, MA, Elizabeth Collins (Kevin) of Yonkers, Patrick Collins (Denise) of Brooklyn, Joan O'Keefe (Daniel) of Raleigh, NC, Margaret A Collins of New York, Joseph Collins (Andrea) of Solihull, UK, and Michael Collins (Justine) of Pleasantville.
She is loved & missed by grandchildren, Margaret, Elizabeth, Maryclare, Teresa, Marie, Joseph, Maggie, Thomas, James, Mary. Rose, Hannah, Michael, Catherine and Clare, and great grandchildren, Charlotte, Theo, Veronica, Ambrose and William.
She is also survived by her sisters and brothers Nancy Maguire, Rosemarie Reddington (Robert), Mary Fitzpatrick (Chris), Bernadette Roda, James Flatley (Bridie), Michael Flatley (Doris), and many nieces and nephews in both Ireland and America. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Thomas J. Flatley.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord.
