Obituary for Antoinette L. Yvars

Antoinette L. Yvars, age 86, of Valhalla N.Y. passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on October 5th, 2012 after a long and courageously fought illness. Her bravery was exemplary. Ann was born on January 9, 1926 in White Plains, N.Y. to Joseph and Josephine Daleo. She graduated from White Plains High School in 1943. There, she met the love of her life, “her Hon,” Salvador A. Yvars. (former Major League Baseball catcher for the New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals). They were married on September 28, 1947 at St. John’s the Evangelist Church in White Plains, N.Y. and shared 61 wonderful years together. Her family was her undeniable focus and joy in life. Ann was a loving and devoted mother and cherished by twin daughters, Deborah A. DiLorenzo (Don) of Hawthorne, N.Y. and Donna M. Saldi (John) of Valhalla, N.Y. Also survived by daughter, Diane J. Yvars of Valhalla, N.Y. and son, David J. Yvars Sr. (Bianca) of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. Loved and adored grandmother to Lisa (Joe) Scaplehorn, Joey, John, Diana and David Jr. and loving great-grandma to Noelle, Gianna and Joey. Dear sister to Rose Mannix (Dan) of West Palm Beach, Florida and Frances Dahlstrom of White Plains, N.Y. Survived by brothers-in-law, Anthony Russo of West Palm Beach, Florida and Jack Yvars (Pat) of Somers, N.Y. Also survived by loving Aunt Natalie Laface of White Plains, N.Y. and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. Predeceased by her beloved husband Salvador A. Yvars on December 10th 2008, parents, Joseph and Josephine Daleo and sisters, Marie Russo and Carmela Radice (Anthony). The family would also like to thank her much appreciated friend and devoted caretaker, Nancy Nadareishvili from the country of Georgia. Ann enjoyed being PTA secretary for many years during her childrens’ school years. Ann had a vast medical background and proud to work for a variety of medical doctors in the Westchester area. She also enjoyed working as an Administrative Assistant to the White Plains Commissioner of Recreation and Parks, Joseph Davidson for over 14 years until her retirement in 1988. The Yvars family will receive friends on Monday, October 8th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Beecher Funeral Home Inc., 418 Bedford Rd, Pleasantville, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla on Tuesday, October 9th at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Ann’s name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
