Obituary for Vincent T. Viola

Vincent Theodore Viola Sr. peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by family and loved ones on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. He was 97 years young, a resident of Pleasantville, N.Y. for the past 40 years. Born in Greenwich Village, N.Y. on February 19, 1919, he was the son of Rose Verna and Sebastian Viola.

Vince was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Anne L. Desharnais. Together they had six children, Jeffrey Viola, Dover Plains, N.Y., deceased October 11, 1992; Rosanne Viola Cooper and husband Joseph, Highland, N.Y.; Jean Viola Caravello and husband John, Norwood, M.A.; Vincent Viola Jr. and wife Patricia, Sherman, C.T.; Karen Viola Knapp and husband Eugene, Laurens, N.Y.; Margaret Viola Grioli-Melis and husband Dennis, Garden City, N.Y.

He was the very proud grandfather of 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Francesca Napolitano, John Viola, Vita Monachino, and Joyce Siclari. He is survived by his beloved sister-in-law Marian Desharnais and brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Anna Desharnias.

Vince was a communicant of Holy Innocents RC Church and a member of the American Legion Lloyd, Post 193. He served in the United States Army from March 1941 through December 1945 with the 8th Infantry Division, 186th Combat Engineers Battalion in the Pacific. In 1992 he retired as Chief Stationary Engineer, NYC Health and Hospitals Corp. and re-entered the workforce at the age of 85, working for the town of New Castle DPW until 2015.

Funeral services are under the direction of Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, Pleasantville, N.Y. on Sunday, April, 17th 2016 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, April 18th, 2016 at 10am at Holy Innocents Church, Pleasantville. Internment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Dover Plains, N.Y.

Donations may be made to “Ride2Recovery” for wounded veterans.
