October 29, 2018

Albert Victor Hutin, Jr., 87, of Davidson, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018, in his home. Albert (Al) is survived by his wife, Antonette (Toni) Packs Hutin; daughters, Cheryl Hutin Davis (Christopher) and Piper H. Olsen (John); brother, Charles T. Hutin; grandchildren, Colin Rink and Michael Olsen, and step-granddaughters Jessica Lavery, Melissa Lavery and Conner Davis, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Al was born February 5, 1931 in Chappaqua, NY to the late Albert V. Hutin Sr. and Ada Belle Thompson Hutin. He was a fifth generation resident of Chappaqua and raised his family there. In May of 2017 he and Toni moved to North Carolina to be closer to their daughters. Al was an English teacher at Edgemont High School for over 30 years before his retirement in 1986. He kept in close contact with many of his students over the years and loved to catch up with “my kids” by phone and email. Al proudly served his community. His contributions included serving as Fire Commissioner for the Chappaqua Fire Department for 21 years, Past President of the New Castle Historic Society and the author of “Blast from the Past“ in the Historical Society newsletter, which recounted his memories growing up in Chappaqua in the 30s, 40s and 50s. Al was a member of the Board of the Fair Ridge Cemetery in Chappaqua and a Kiwanis member in his summer residence of Hampton Bays, NY. He was often a planner and faithful attendee of Horace Greeley High School Reunions. He was awarded and recognized for his contributions by the Rotary Club of Chappaqua with the Citizen of the Year Award in 2001, and in 2016 the Westchester County Board of Legislators declared October 16th to be “Albert Hutin Day”. Al was a devout Catholic at The Church of St. John and St. Mary and was a counsel member for many years. He proudly served his country in the US Navy on the USS Midway and was touched by the many people who would stop and thank him for his service.
