Obituary

Miguel Ernesto Ortiz of Pleasantville, NY passed away on Sunday March 31, 2019 at the age of 88 years old.
Miguel was born on May 8, 1930 in Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He came to the United States in 1956, eventually settling with his family in Pleasantville NY and becoming an accomplished photographer, well known for his portraits, including many famous faces.
An active member of his community, Miguel used his experience as a professional soccer player in Argentina to form the first youth soccer program in Pleasantville in 1975. He loved to sing, lending his booming baritone voice to The Cantata Singers, The Village Singers, and his church choirs. He was a long-term member of The Rotary Club of Pleasantville, serving as president in 2007, and a member of the Thornwood Neighborhood Group since 1996, serving there as chaplain. He was also a long-term member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville and before that, an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Mount Kisco.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Callies Acebal Ortiz, to whom he was happily married for 19 years, and his daughter Adriana (Larry) Toman, sons Pablo and Peter Ortiz, and his step daughters Karyn (Glenn) Garnes, Valerie (Kurt) Wiebke and Robin Brown. He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren … Daniel Toman (Lindsey], Christopher Toman, Noah Ortiz, Lucy Ortiz, Danielle Garnes, Kenny Garnes, Tommy Brown, Nick Wiebke, Brennan Wiebke, Brianna Wiebke, and 2 great grandchildren … Ariel and Ayla Toman and sister-in-law Lina Ortiz.
He is predeceased by his first wife Amalia, his mother Agustina Ortiz, and his brothers Salvador and Celso (Maria Rosa).
Visitation will be on Friday, April 5 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville, NY. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 1pm at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville, NY.
