Obituary for Francine Bernard (Cheles)

Francine Kathy Bernard, 72, of Hartsdale, New York, passed away in the early morning of April 8th while comforted and surrounded by her beloved family.
Fran was born in Manhattan, New York, on January 23, 1947 to William and Alice Chelos. She attended Hunter College in Manhattan, New York, and married her soul-mate, Carlos “Charlie” Bernard on June 22, 1968. She is survived by her loving husband Charlie, her two sons, Carlos and Jon-Paul, her sister, Alyse Chelos, her three grandchildren, Dennis, Carlos and Charlie Bernard and her two dogs.
Fran was the protector and glue of her family, which was the most important thing in her life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, beloved grandmother and caring friend. In the hardest and worst times, Fran was the first person to offer her help and assistance in any way she could. She made all of her friends and loved ones feel like her family. Her family is devastated by their loss and by the huge hole that she has left in their lives. She will be missed every day.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on April 13th at the Sacred Heart Church on Lawton Avenue in Hartsdale. Father Gorman, the priest that married Fran and Charlie in 1968, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption.
