Obituary for Harold S. Wild
Harold S. Wild was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 30, 1919 to Fanny Bacharach and Abraham Wild. He grew up there at 2840 Ruckle Street and worked every day after school with his dad, Abe, in the family scrapyard business.
Harold served in the armed forces in WWII and upon return married his sweetheart, Sibyl Wender. Harold and Sibyl were married for 68 years until Sibyl’s passing in 2013.
He was a loving husband and father of two wonderful children Wendy (Michael) and Jonathan. He always enjoyed reading poems of fellow Hoosier, James Whitcomb Riley to his children when they were small.
Harold was also a loving grandparent, one of his favorite roles in life, to Benjamin (Jill), Rachel, Jo (Estrella), Susannah, and JD (Alex). In recent years he was overjoyed to become a great grandfather to Tatum, Jack, and Enzo.
Harold had 2 sisters, Bess and Rozella, both of whom predeceased him. He adored his wonderful niece and nephew, Janet Fisher (Shelly) of Denver and Alan Goldstein (Carin) of Indianapolis Indiana.
Harold had a great sense of humor and could often be found telling jokes, or mystifying children with his famous and unique bird whistling. He loved music and singing, participating in many Pleasantville Music theatre productions.
He worked with his wife Sibyl in her internationally recognized travel service headquartered in Westchester. Together they followed their passion and traveled around the world. Harold delighted in taking trips with his grandchildren.
After Sibyl’s death he was taken care of by very special people – care givers who were compassionate and devoted to him; Bridget Riley (sadly no longer living) Noreen O’Driscoll, Mary F. Douglas, Ita Roche, Michelle Eagan and Siobhan Flynn.
At the very end of his life, he was 99 and hoping to celebrate his 100th birthday only a few months later. Under the care of Hospice, he was able to live out his life with dignity, comfort and love.
