It is with great sorrow that the family of Patrick Dougherty announces his death from heart failure, at age 50, on May 19, 2019. He died while bicycling in the woods, a setting and an activity he loved, after spending the morning at Pleasantville Day with his cherished and beloved family and friends.
Pat was born on March 21, 1969 in Concord, MA to Carroll Ahern-Lepper and Patrick Dougherty. He grew up in Massachusetts, Maine, and Rochester with his mom, stepfather Earl, and sisters, Bridget and Maya.
Pat had a successful career as a guidance counselor at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York for the past 15 years. He married Jeanie Gayeski on July 10, 2004. They have two daughters, Sophia (11) and Catherine (7). He was highly involved in his Aikido Dojo, his bicycling community, his school community, and the community of Pleasantville, NY.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, parents, siblings, in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He will always be remembered as a man who magically obtained information about the needs of any person in his presence, asking the right questions, listening vigorously, challenging assumptions, and loving deeply. As a devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, the lives he touched are profoundly better for knowing him. He left us all too early, but he left behind a wondrous wife, Jeanie Gayeski, 2 beautiful daughters, Sophia and Catherine, who all share his extraordinary humaneness and strength of will.
We love you Pat and each one of us will carry on your spirit as we move through the world. May you rest in peace knowing your beautiful wife and girls will be well taken care of.
His funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM this Thursday, May 23, at Rockwood Hall, Phelps Way, Sleepy Hollow, NY. Parking is available at Phelps Memorial Hospital and the site is a short walk up the hill. It is handicapped accessible. No seating is available, so feel free to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Mr. Dougherty (Pat) was a great guy. He was guidance counselor to my 3 kids at Greeley High. I've seen him around, in the years since, and always left our encounters with the warmest thoughts. He was really such a fine human being. His loss is heartbreaking. He will be so missed.
I send my love to his family. I'm sure that so many of us do.
