Obituary

John S. Maduras
John Sherman Maduras, of Chappaqua, New York, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side, on Saturday, June 29 at the age of 74. He was born on August 30, 1944 to Mary Petrishin Maduras and John Martin Maduras in Yonkers, New York. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He graduated from Gorton High School, attended New York University earning BA and MPA degrees. He earned a JD from Pace University. John worked for the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service for 14 years. He was a Captain in the US Army, where he served with distinction in Vietnam. He was a partner in the Law Office of Steven Horn and John S. Maduras and practiced Immigration Law privately in Chappaqua, NY.
John was a deeply religious member of the parish of St. John and St. Mary, where he served as Eucharistic Minister for many years. As a child he was an altar server at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers. John loved gardening, fixing cars, cooking and playing with his grandchildren and pets.
John is survived by Elsie Mae Irizarry Maduras, his loving wife of 48 years, his devoted children, Katherine Anne Maduras and John Martin Maduras, his daughter in law, Devin Maduras, his grandson John Steven Maduras (Jack) and granddaughter Samantha James Maduras and countless cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Ruth Anne Wittmer and brother in law James R. Wittmer.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2 from 4-8 at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 11 am, at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 21 Shonnard Place, Yonkers. Interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery in Yonkers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vietnam Vets, Wounded Warriors or Pets for Vets.

I did not know Mr. Maduras. But when he was with us as a patient in the Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Westchester medical Center, I heard so many wonderful things about him. I was touched by Elsie's, Katherine's and John's devotion to him right to the end. Blessings and peace to all of you. May God go gently with all of you in these times of grief.

John was a good friend at Gorton High school. We would pack into his station wagon and go to sports games and have fun together. It is with deep sorry I hear of his passing and wish sincere condolences in his passing.
