Obituary for Catherine Frances Mante

Catherine F. Mante (nee Mitchell) of Pleasantville, N.Y. and Cape Cod, MA passed away on Sunday July 7, 2019. She was 91 years old. Catherine was born in Yonkers, NY on May 11, 1928. She was the daughter of William and Mary (Gore) Mitchell. Catherine was a passionate reader, crocheter and needle crafter. She always had several projects on-going, while reading numerous books to fill her days. Catherine was raised in Yonkers during the era of trollies and ferries and attended local schools. She went on to become a secretary in NYC. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Society and a parishioner of Holy Innocents Parish in Pleasantville.
Catherine met and married her husband of 63 years Andrew C. Mante in 1950. They settled in Yonkers to raise their 5 children. “Dolly” as she was known, returned to work for the Yonkers School system where she was the executive secretary to 5 district superintendents. Since her retirement in 1992, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her devoted dogs (Ozzie and Gia) at her homes on Cape Cod and Florida.
Catherine leaves behind a large and loving family who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her children Andrew (Donna) of Longmeadow MA, William of Ormond Beach FL, Paul (Debbie) of Surfside City SC, Carol (Kevin Leonard) Pleasantville NY and Peter (Michele) of Palisades NY. She is also survived by her sister Sr. Mary Christella, RSM of Merion PA, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Catherine was predeceased by her husband Andy, her sisters Marie Anderson and Barbara Mitchell and her brother William Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 14, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home, Pleasantville NY. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 10am at Holy Innocents Church Pleasantville NY. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s name to Memorial Sloan Kettering GIVING (giving.mskcc.org) or Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam.
