Obituary for Thelma Bell Eastman

Obituary: Thelma Bell Eastman passed into eternal life on February 20, 2012 after a long illness. The daughter of William B. and Opal Huffman Daffer, Thelma was born May 1, 1925 in Fraser, Colorado. She is pre-deceased by her parents, brother, George William, both husbands and is survived by her daughter, Gail Bell Malloy (Michael), her son, Glenn James Eastman (Linda) and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma was a long time resident of Armonk, having moved to town in the 1930’s. Her parents ran two local and well known restaurants – The Alpine Inn and the Ox Yoke. She attended Pleasantville High School and married Walter Raymond Bell, Jr. on December 1, 1944. She married Elwood James Eastman on February 21, 1968.

In 1987, Thelma retired from the Readers Digest where she was employed as an editorial assistant in the company’s Park Avenue and Pleasantville locations. She was a woman dearly loved by all and will be remembered for her incredible energy, love of life, willingness to help others and can-do attitude. Thelma loved her friends, her cats, flowers, her home, and her family. She overcame many hardships in her life and was greatly admired for her perseverance and positive attitude. You were a role model, Mom. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute to Hospice of Westchester, 311 North Main Street, White Plains, NY 10605 or your local Alzheimer’s organization.

Viewing will be Monday, February 27th from 5-9pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 418 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 28th at 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford, NY.
