Obituary for Morton Herbert Eligator

Obituary: Morton Herbert Eligator born June 28, 1924, died December 1, 2009. Beloved husband of Beverly, widower of Laura Troob Eligator, blessed with three sons, Ronald, James, and Eric, and their spouses Mauri Tamarin, Colette Cowgill Eligator, and Laura Miller Eligator, two stepdaughters Elise Cagan and Betsy Cagan, and their spouses James Fatolitis and Frank Griffin, and six grandchildren, Abraham Tamarin Eligator, Lily Eligator, Talia Eligator, Ruth Cagan Fatolitis, Miranda Cagan Fatolitis, and Meredith Cagan Griffin. Affectionately known as Bud, he was surrounded by many of them this past Thanksgiving as he proposed a toast celebrating the love his family shared.
After serving in the Army during World War II, Morton graduated from the Columbia University School of Engineering, and joined the New York City consulting engineering firm of Weiskopf & Pickworth in 1948. During the 1950s he helped build the firm’s collaboration prominent architects, bringing his firm to the fore of modernism in the United States. In 1960 he became Senior Partner and forged strong working relationships with many leading architects. Active with the firm for over 40 years, he retired in 1990.
As the active patriarch of an extended family, he was known and loved for his generosity of spirit, time, love and humor. He will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, 10:30 AM, at Bet Torah Synagogue, 60 Smith Avenue, Mt. Kisco, NY. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory may be made to United Jewish Appeal or the United Way.
