Obituary for Elvira (Vera) Scafati (Biscardi)
Elvira "Vera" Scafati, a long-time Pleasantville resident, passed away on August 17, 2014. She was 96 years old.
Vera was born in Manhattan on June 18, 1918 to Eugenio and Lucrezia Biscardi. She married Carlo Scafati in 1940. They moved to Pleasantville in 1955. In addition to raising her children, Vera helped her husband run their successful printing business, Scafati Printing. When he passed away in 1977, she took over the company.
She was a long-time member of the Rosary Altar Society in Pleasantville, as well as the Mt. Pleasant Seniors. One of her greatest skills was her cooking, and her kitchen was always open. No one ever left Vera's house hungry.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Eugene, her sister Rose, and her husband Carlo Scafati. Vera is survived by three daughters, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, as well as a loving extended family.
Visiting hours will be Monday, August 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home at 418 Bedford Rd. in Pleasantville, N.Y. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26 at 10:00am at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville, N.Y. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery.
