Dr. Donald J. Gerety, 86, of Sarasota, FL., formerly of Chappaqua, NY, died on December 23, 2016. He was born January 21, 1930, attended St. Barnabus Elementary School, Cardinal Hayes High School, and St. Michael's College in Vermont, from which he graduated in 1951. He then received a doctorate in dentistry from New York University in 1955, and spent several years in the US Army as an active dental physician stationed at Fort Lewis, WA before returning east and beginning a private practice in Chappaqua. Having built a home office adjacent to his residence, his commitment to his patients quickly earned him a practice to which he was devoted for the next four decades.

Loving husband for 62 years to Joan, and father of seven children, Don was an active parishioner of St. John & St. Mary Church. He enjoyed an active life of skiing, hockey, hiking, sailing, biking, and tennis. He loved being in the outdoors, and spending time there with his family. His hobbies included: carpentry, chess, model-ship building, and reading.

Don is survived by his wife Joan, his children, Gregg, Shawn, Keith, Melissa, Mary, Paul, and Joan, as well as his fifteen grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of St. John & St. Mary Church (Little Church) in Chappaqua on Friday, January 6th at 11 am.
